CATTLE REMOVED FROM
OAKES ISLAND on BRAZOS

River Crossed Twice in Bringing Out
Herd While Stream
is Low.

       After grazing two years on "Oakes island" on the Brazos river northwest of Marlin, a herd of cattle was removed from the place Wednesday.
       The cattle had been placed there for pasturage, said to be luxuriant on this tract of land, and thrived on it.
       The cattle were brought out while the Brazos is low, it being necessary to cross the river twice in getting them out.
       The island contains about 500 acres, H. T. Barton, who owns the adjoining place, said.  It was formed by the river cutting through a bend some years ago.
