When the British Left New York.
New York,
Nov. 25--Today was the 124th anniversary of the evacuation of New York by the
British, one of the annual occasions when patriotic sons of revolutionary sires
fire salutes, raise flags and grow eloquent over the banquet board. In
accordance with their custom of many years, the Old Guard turned out in full
dress uniform and marched down Fifth avenue and over into Broadway to the
Battery, where they presented arms to the flag while a salute was fired by the
artillery at Governor's Island. This afternoon and evening there will be
held the usual anniversary receptions and banquets by the Sons of the American
Revolution and other patriotic bodies.
