Today's News in Brief.

       Emporia, Kas., Oct. 15.--The State Great Council of the Improved Order of Red Men met here this morning with the largest number of delegates in attendance since the establishment of the order in Kansas.  The visitors will be here three days and elaborate preparations have been made for their entertainment.

       Griffin, Ga., Oct. 15.--The annual convention of the Georgia Diary and Live Stock association began today at the Experiment Station and will continue over tomorrow.  An interesting and instructive programme of papers and discussions has been arranged for the meeting.  George C. Dillon, of Macon, is the presiding officer.

       Louisville, Ky.., Oct. 15.--The Kentucky State Medical Association began its fifty-second annual meeting in this city today, with headquarters at the Galt House.  The programme of the meeting covers three days and provides for papers and addresses by a number of medical men of wide prominence.

       New York, Oct. 15.--A wedding of note today was that of Miss Anne Davenport Russell, daughter of Henry Russell of Detroit, and James Thayer McMillan, son of the late Senator James McMillan of Michigan.  The ceremony was performed at Sherry's in the presence of a large and fashionable assemblage.

       Buffalo, N. Y.., Oct. 15.--The Joint Protective Boards of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers met in conference here today for the purpose of establishing a standard rate of pay and uniform operating and working rules of the various railroads in the territory embracing all the lines east of Chicago.

       Moline, Ill., Oct. 15.-- Three days of unusual interest and activity in Pythian circles were inaugurated here today.  It is the annual meeting of the Illinois grand lodge.  The formal opening took place in the new Moline theater today.  The election of officers will be held tomorrow afternoon.
