The Social Event of the Week.

The hospitable of Mr. and Mrs. Z. I. Harlan was thrown open to the young people
of Marlin Monday evening when they entertained in honor of their daughter, Miss
Constance's twentieth birthday.
The guest of honor was Miss Gladys Dyer of
Waco, a former schoolmate of Miss Harlan's. The house, always so homelike
and beautiful, was even more so, decorated with ferns, pink and white
carnations.
After all the guests arrived, dainty
programs were passed for progressive conversation. Miss Goodrich and Dr.
Buie were voted the best conversationalists, Miss Goodrich receiving a beautiful
Harrison Fisher picture and Dr. Buie a late novel.
Dainty refreshments consisting of a salad
course followed by an ice, were served. The favors were pink and white
carnations, carrying out the color scheme of the evening. The dining room
was thrown open, displaying the birthday cake decorated with candles, indicating
the hostess' age, the cutting of which caused much merriment. At a late
hour all bade the hostess good night, wishing her many happy returns of the day
and all voted her a most charming hostess.
Out of town guests were Misses Dyer of
Waco, Davis of Reagan and Hill of Houston.
