       Hamlin is to have a trades and display Nov. 4 and 5.

       Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria is canvlescening. (sic)

       A nut growers' association has been organized at Coleman.

       Frost has been reported from a number of sections in Texas.

       J. P. Newcomb, a well known Texas character, is dead at San Antonio.

       Gov. Campbell has become a professional fair opener--next the Abilene fair Tuesday, Oct. 22.

       The spinners of Europe are touring in Texas with an attempt to meet face to face with farmers.

       The construction of good roads under the expenditure of the $300,000 bond issue is under way in Jefferson county.

       Sheriff Egg of Jackson county has been acquitted of the charge of killing a brother of Felix Powell.

       The dough mixers of San Antonio are endeavoring to get together and boost higher prices.

       Shorty Burch, in county court at Lufkin, was fined, for toting a pistol, $200 and costs and given 12 months in jail.

       At Tyler a brakeman ate an apple that fell out of one of the crates in transit to northern markets and was fined and deprived of his job.  The slogan now is:  "Beware of the forbidden fruit."
