Mother-in-Law Got the Worst of it.
-----

A negro scrap occurred down in the botton on Battle's place Sunday morning in which a man, his wife and mother-in-law took part.  The result was somewhat out of the ordinary--the mother-in-law got the worst of the fight.
The couple had become engaged in a controversy but the negro delares they would have settled their difficulty peaceably had the mother-in-law not "utted in," so trouble ensued.  The infuriated husband and son-in-law, threatened the use of a knife and was about to produce his weapon, when the mother-in-law, who had had more experience in domestic debates than her daughter, and who did not await his order of going, decided to make her exit through the window.  On alighting at the exterior of the building she sustained a broken leg.  No one else was hurt and further trouble was prevented by the cripling of its instigator.
Alex Maxwell, the loving husband and obedient son-in-law, was arrested and placed in jail by deputy Sheriff Watkins.  A plea of guilty was entered this morning before Judge Dashiell for assault, for which he was fined $5 and trimmings.
