Mark Rice Sentenced.
Waco, Texas, Dec. 13.--Without manifesting any outward rage or emotion, Mark
Rice this afternoon heard Judge Surratt pronounce the words which incarcorate
(sic) him for life in one of the state penitentiaries. Not more than
thirty spectators were in the court room when sentence was pronounced.
Walter Phelan, a brother of the murdered man, was among those present.
Rice was brought into the court room by Sheriff George W. Tilley and Deputy
Sheriff John Walton. A formal motion for a new trial was then presented by
Mr. Taylor, which was overruled and sentence passed.
