LOTT CITIZEN IS MISSING.
-----
T. L. Steen Disappears in Fort
Worth--Foul Play Suspected.
T. L. Steen, a well-known business man of Lott, is missing and his family and
friends are much disturbed as to the cause. He went to Fort Worth three
weeks ago on business, taking with him a considerable sum of money. He
suddenly disappeared and so far no trace of him has been found. He is a
brother of Steve M. Steen, and the latter was notified of it Sunday afternoon.
The Fort Worth Record of Sunday reports the matter as follows:
Foul Play Suspected.
"Foul play is believed to have had a prominent part in the mysterious
disappearance of T. L. Steen, a well known grocer of Lott, Falls county.
Steen has not been heard of by his family at Lott in nearly three weeks, and the
last trace of him is given by J. S. Meadows of Fort Worth, who saw him in this
city about the time of his disappearance.
"Mr. Meadows had a telephone call last night from the wife of Steen, and she was
greatly perturbed over the matter. The Fort Worth police and other
authorities or the state have been notified to try to unearth the mystery.
"Steen came to Fort Worth about three weeks ago to make some purchases and
attend to other matters of business. It was a periodical visit, and it is
known that he had several hundred dollars in currency upon his person.
J. S. Meadows say (sic) him in town one afternoon, and Steen said then that he
was on his way to the Texas & Pacific station to go home. Meadows saw no
more of him.
"The missing man, his friend Meadows says, was quiet, unassuming, and thoroughly
steady, recognized as one of the best citizens of Falls county. He is
known to have ever been watchful about his family, and has never before been
missing.
"Under these circumstances, and considering the money carried on his person,
foul play is about the only theory advanced, yet no bodies have been discovered
in this section and gone unidentified within the past few weeks.
"Steen is described as a man 45 or 50 years old, heavy build, weighing between
175 and 180 pounds, red face, heavy mustache, slightly gray, and black hair."
Later: Mrs. Steen, wife of Mr. Steen, says that she does not think
anything serious has befallen her husband and that he is probable out west,
remote from a railroad, looking at some land. She expects to hear from him
most any day.
