HELD FOR STEALING A MULE.

Negro Preacher in Trouble--Had

on a Gun.

 

    "Rev." Henry McDowell, a negro was placed in jail Saturday afernoon by Constable Hemphill on a charge of theft of a mule.

 

    On the way to jail, Henry begged excuse for a few minutes, which, on account of the urgent nature of the negro's request, was granted.  After being taken to jail, a double-barreled derringer of antiquated pattern, was found in the water closet, which stands near the jail.  The weapon was enclosed in an envelope upon which was written the name of Henry McDowell.

 

    The mule stolen was one which had in his possession, being in litigatior.  He had turned the mule in a pasture and it was from the pasture that the animal was taken.
