FARMERS UNION IS ORGANIZED.
-----
ANNOUNCED THAT THE WORK WILL BE
PUSHED EAST OF BRAZOS.
-----
A local of
the Falls county farmers union was organized in Marlin Monday night by S. O.
Kelly, who is an organizer with state Jurisdiction.
The
following officers have been elected: W. L. Falconer, president; Geo. S.
Cousins, vice-president; John Ward, secretary and treasurer; R. S. McCoy,
chaplain. The election of officers, appointment of standing committees,
etc., will be completed at next meeting which will be held at the court house
Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Organizer
Kelly stated to the Democrat that it was now the purpose to push the
organization in east Falls county, as it had been done on the west side.
There are many farmers in the organization west of the Brazos, and they are
enthusiastic. As a result, the warehouse movement, which is one of the
enterprises, fostered by the union, is well under way and a number of them will
be built on the west side. Mr. Kelly said that the union was very anxious
to establish one at Marlin and he thought that as soon as the farmers were
better organized, there would be more enthusiasm for the project.
The union
is a great education: in fact education is the capstone of its purposes, and
those at the head of the organization say that there is a brighter day for the
farmers and, incidentally for others, along educational and industrial lines.
