Two cases of diphtheria developed Friday in the family of Mr. Lawrence, living near Butler's store on Ward street.  The health physician, Dr. Ward, immediately had the yellow flag hung out and noe one is permitted to enter or leave the house except under proper restrictions.
The two children having the malady were sent from school earlier in the week when they showed the slightest symptoms of being sick.
In this connection Superintendent Doughty says:  "I am giving this matter my personal and closest attention.  Every precaution possible is being taken to keep it out of the school, and I do not apprehend a spread.  Once each day, or oftener, we inspect every room and question closely every pupil.  Those who show symptoms of being ill or who are believed to have been exposed, are sent at once and will not be permitted to return until the danger period is entirely passed.  We will fumigate the entire building regularly and do everything else that is necessary to keep it out of school."
