ANNUAL ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

-----

Chief Nettles Retires After 10 Years

Faithful Service.

-----

The Marlin volunteer fire department met in annual session at the central station Thursday night at 8 o'clock.  The following business was attended to:

The report of the hose company No. 1 was read, showing the following officers elected for the ensuing year:

John E. Groves, captain; C. K. Bailey, assistant; Robin Hunnicut driver; B. F. Foster, secretary and treasurer.

The first Tuesday in each month was selected as regular meeting night.  At the next meeting men will be assigned to regular places.

The Chemical company No. 1 elected officers as follows:

Oscar Finley, captain; B. C. Nettles, assistant; Theodore Falconer, driver; Ed Greer treasurer and S. R. Hemphill, secretary.

Hook and Ladder company retains all officers as last year.

    The department officers selected are:

Geo. H. Carter, chief; B. F. Foster, assistant, John E. Groves, secretary and treasurer; Berry Foster, Jr., collector; S. R. Hemphill and Chas. Carlton, fire police.

Delegates to state convention, together with alternates, were selected from the different companies, and are

Oscar Finley; Ed Greer, Bruce Smith John Groves and B. F. Foster.

Chief Nettles, in retiring from a term of ten years as chief of the fire department, made a few appropriate remarks for the good of the service.

The new chief, Geo. H. Carter, has been connected with the department since its organization, and has done much for its success; he has been acting as captain of the hose company, and will make the department a fine officer.

The firemen, in speaking of the work for last year, stated that they have been much hampered in their work by numerous small boys loafing at the station, trying to ride trucks at the fires, and they expressed a hope that the parents of the town would keep them away from the station and out of the way of the firemen at fires.

The meeting adjourned subject to call of the chief.
