Henry Berry, a negro, was given a sentence of one day in jail Tuesday afternoon on a charge of abandoning his wife.
Defandant and the woman had been married only a week when he is alleged to have deserted her.  After he was arrested he agreed to live with her again and was therefore allowed to go with a day in jail and the payment of the costs, amounting to about $23.00.
This is the second prosecution in this county under the new law for this offense.
