SELF EXPLANATION.
----------

EDITOR DEMOCRAT: - I desire to correct an impression that emanated from the article that appeared under signature of "Citizen," in the daily soon after the pavilion burned. On first reading but very little attention was paid it, as my conscience was clear and my conduct and attitude plainly shows the position I have all along taken on this as well as other forms of worldliness. Hearing some unfavorable and almost unkind comment and on reading article, feel that I have been done an injustice, whether designedly or not I can not say. The writer of the article and every other member of the executive, committee know full well my position and contention concerning this. I have on several occasions entered my protest against the kind of entertainment that was being provided the visitors and our people. I have never contributed five cents for building a pavilion or for its maintenance nor do I iend the park my presence.
It has never received my encouragement or endorsement, openly or implied, for with the convictions I have I could not afford it. I hold that no people have a right to foster or encourage an institution from which no good can come, and the modern dance, either in our parlors or in public, surely does not have an elevating or refining influence, so necessarily has the opposite effect - a tendency to demoralize.
I regret that it seems necessary for me to make any explanation whatever as my past and present record is before the people for them to judge. In view of the light in which the article referred to places me, and fearing it might cause some to stumble, this short note appears. I trust that my name will not be used as being in favor of rebuilding the pavilion, and hope for the day to speedily come when our citizens will not give so much attention to strictly pleasure seekers, but more carefully provide for the comforts of the afflicted and make this what it should be, a health resort. Closing, would say, I am a member of the business league, also member of the executive committee, and have been since the organizations have taken an active interest in the objects and enterprises that I considered proper and right and that made for the welfare and material benefit of our town. Am sure many good and laudable things have been brought about through the league that could not have other wise have peen accomplished. I desire to say further, that when it comes to the time and place when I am called upon to compromise myself or my church, in this or any other organization, to which I belong, I shall promptly sever my connection with same.

Respectfully,
C. T. CURRY.
