Trouble Over A Bowl of Soup.
-----

Saturday afternoon a "stray darkey" strayed into the Chinese restaurant down on the corner of Live Oak and Railroad streets and ordered a bowl of soup.  He was waited upon by the colored woman in charge.  He devoured the soup and then got up and started to leave without paying for it.  He was remonstrated with by the woman who objected very strenuously to the negro leaving without first contributing a nickel to the exchequer of the establishment in payment for the bowl of soup.  The negro struck the woman in the face and the woman tore the negro's shirt into shreds and refused to loose her hold until the negro drew a huge knife and made threatening gestures towards the vitals of the woman.  When he got loose the negro ran around towards the kitchen where the Chinaman and another negro were and resumed the row with them.  He picked up a brick and shied it at the negro but hit the Oriental.  The brick made a dangerous wound on the head of the Chinaman and he was pretty badly hurt but a clinical examination of his cramium gives evidence of his ultimate recovery.  The stray negro who raised the rumpus made a precipitate retreat with officers in pursuit but eluded them and was still at large at last accounts.
