Negro Crushed To Death

Passed Over Him

    Monday January 4 a negro was killed on the Conoly farm in a peculiar manner.
    He was driving a team of mules to a large and heavy roller used in the preparation of the land.
    Becoming tired of walking the negro got upon the plank over the roller to ride.  The plank broke and he was precipitated in front of the roller which passed over his body crushing him to death.
    The negro, whose name was Speed, weighed about 225 lbs.  The mules were running away at the time and threw him between the roller and the gate, breaking his neck and one arm.
    The mule that led in the runaway had been on the farm for a long while and early in life formed a dislike to the negro race and is known on the farm as "Nigger".  Speed is the second negro he has killed, the first having fell a victim to his pranks about 14 years ago.
