HAYDEN WINS DAMAGE SUIT.
Gets
$15,000 Against Cranfill et al.
Dallas, Tex., No. 26.--The
third trial of the famous Hayden-Cranfill suit involving many leading men of the
Baptist church in Texas ended at 10 o'clock tonight after being on hearing
before Judge Morgan for six weeks.
The jury brought in a
verdict in favor of S. A. Hayden for $15,000.
Rev. Hayden and J. B.
Cranfill and others for $100,000 for libel and for being deprived of a seat in
the general Baptist con (missing) of Texas at San Antonio in 1897. The
case has been before the courts ever since. On the first trial $30,000 was
awarded Hayden, but a reversal was secured, a second trial resulted in a hung
jury. The Rev. Hayden is editor of the Texas Baptist Herald and the Rev.
Cranfill is editor of the Baptist Standard.
