GENERAL NEWS CONDENSED.

       Crops all over Texas have been more or less damaged by the floods.  It is the heaviest general rain that ha(s) fallen in many years.
      
       The striking miners in the Shenandoah Valley are becoming demonstrative and trouble is feared.

       Cholera is greatly on the increase in Egypt.

       Forty lives were lost Wednesday in a collision between two British Steamers of the coast of Singapore.

       Supt. G. A. Taft of the Wells Fargo express has offered a heavy reward for robbers who got $52,000 from the company recently.

       The record for July shows a decrease in the shipments of oil from the Beaumont field.

       "First bales" are appearing all over the southern portion of the state. The late rains will retard the opening of the fleecy staple some.
