FOR FLOATER REPRESENTATIVE
~~~~~
- [Waco Tribune]
     Mr. A. M. Kennedy formerly a member of the legislature from Limestone county, but for two years a citizen of Mart, McLennan county, was in the city Monday.
     As the readers of the Tribune know, Mr. Kennedy is a candidate for flotorial representative from the district composed of Falls, Limestone and McLennan (two to be elected).
     "The most prominent question," said Mr. Kennedy, "likely to be up for consideration will be that of taxation. Mr. Robbins. the state treasurer, is reported to have said that by the time the legislature meets, the state will be in debt about one million dollars and it has been suggested upon all hands that the state tax rate will have to increased to 20 cents. This would be, in my opinion, legalized robbery. By that adoption of a proper business system in the management of the state's business and the adoption of a tax law that will compel every interest to pay its pro rata share of the burdens of taxation, no increase will be needed. In the 27th legislature I introduced a bill, imperfect as it was, which would have reduced the rate to 15 or even 12 cents and would have equalized the burdens. If elected I shall introduce a better, one, and it is my ambition to see it become a law Tax reform and a less expensive government will be my text, in this campaign."
     Mr. Kennedy's friends are confident that he will be elected. Notwithstanding he was opposed each time by a strong candidate in Limestone, he has won three times by majorities of from 500 to 1000 in a total primary vote not exceeding 3300 at any time. He has a large number of friends in this county well as in Falls.
