On July 11th a man from Robertson county came to Marlin and applied to County Clerk R. S. McCoy for a permit to marry a young lady whose name was given as Miss Maude Newton.
The party made affidavit to the age of the young lady and the affidavit was entered of record in the clerk's office.  A little later the clerk received a message from the father of the girl stating that she was under age and that the would be groom had sworn falsely.
The marriage was intercepted by the "old man" who prevented its solemnization.  He later came before the grand jury and had the party indicted for false swearing.
Sheriff Carlton received a telegram from the sheriff at Henderson telling him that he had C. R. Elkins in jail and Mr. Carlton left Tuesday after the prisoner.
