COMPRESS AT WORK.
-----
Started Up With A Small Run.
-----

The cotton compress has begun the active work of taking the surplus air out of cotton bales by the process of compressing.
The start was made with a 200 bale run, the cotton of James T. Brock & Co., localled in from High Bank, Mart and other places.
The manager of the campress (sic) here is R. M. Bain, of Waco, who has been with the company several years.  Mr. Bain stated to a
Democrat reporter that the capacity of the press when running under full headway was 1000 to 1200 per day of ten hours.  Only for experienced hands were brought from Waco, the otherss (sic) being "raw recruits" secured in Marlin and until they get onto the work the press will not be run to its full capacity.
As a compress is a new thing in Marlin quite a good many people were on hand to see it operate.
Contrary to the fears of some there is very little noise about the running of the press and it can scarcely be heard two blocks away.
