in Biennial Conclave.

       The democratic county convention at the court house this morning persuant to the call of the county chairman.
       Hon. John R. Southwell, chairman, in calling the convention to order delivered an eloquent speech, reciting some incidents of his early manhood and referring to the gavel he held in his hand, having been made from a tree under which he and his fellow cowboys were want to congregate in the days long agone.  Mr. Southwell's remarks were greeted with a loud applause and put the convention in the best of humor.
       For temporary chairman Judge B H Rice put in nomination Hon Paul Pieper of Barclay and he was unanimously elected.
       In accepting the honor, Mr. Pieper said that he hoped the convention would be harmonious and he was liberally applauded.
       For temporary secretaries Dan M Jackson and Will Watkins were elected.  The chair declared the selection of three committees, one on credentials and bases of representation, one on permanent organization and order of business and on platform and resolutions.
       W. T. Miles made a motion that one delegate from each justice precinct be appointed on each of said committee.
       This was amended so as to have one delegate from each voting box on said committee.
       Jno. Barlow and J. N. Adams were appointed Sergt At Arms.

       After the committees has been announced the convention adjourned until 2 o'clock.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

       The convention was called to order at two o'clock by Chairman Pieper.  The committee on permanent organization and order of business submitted its report, recommending Judge D. H. Boyles for permanent chairman and Dan M Jackson permanent secretary.  The report was adopted.
       The committee on credentials made its report seating all the delegates present and prescribing the basis of representation. The report was adopted.
       The committee on platform and resolutions made its report and after being amended was adopted.  (The platform and Resolutions as amended followed-lsc)
       The Westphalia band had furnished music for the occasion and were voted a resolution of thanks.
       Hon. W C Jones and Hon. Jno. R. Southwell were thanked for the able manner in which they had conducted the affairs of the party for the past two years.  Also the officers of the convention were extended a vote of thanks.
       J. W. Spivey was elected secretary of the executive committee.
       C J Bartlett and Dr G P Reeves were added to the state convention.
       The convention adjourned sinedie.
