MARLIN CITY COUNCIL.

Regular Monthly Meeting Of City
Fathers.

     At the regular monthly meeting of the city council for May, Mayor Pro tem Allen presiding, the following business was transacted:
     Street and alley committee reported progress in the matter of street and sidewalk from corner of M. D. Williams property to Central rail way.
     Progress was reported III matter of getting I. & G. N to construct a bridge over gulch near ice plant.
     Further time was granted in matter of having streets and alleys cleaned as per order passed at April meeting. Street and alley committee granted further time in matter of new street between Falls and WIlliams.
     Mayor pro tem Allen placed Alderman Sanders in ex-Alderman Cousin's place on committee to go before commissioners court in regard to small pox expenses in city and on committee.
     In an informal discussion the council agreed that the streets and alleys should be cleaned at once and that city team and hands be used for the purpose The mayor pro tem urged the street and alley committee to give this latter immediate attention. It as agreed that lime should be liberally used in this work. An order having been passed at a previous meeting which, in substance was in keeping with the above plans of street cleaning the matter was, as stated, considered in an informal way.
     The secretary was instructed to order a prison record book further use of the city marshal.
     Committee reported having completed drive ways in cemetery.
     Ordered that a filling pipe (for filling jugs, etc.) and a wash basin be placed near the hot well fur public use, and that same be so located that no nuisance will be thereby created about the drinking fountain; that the marshal be instructed to post notices near drinking fountain at hot well for bidding any character of bathing, mouth washing, etc, near the well other than at the wash basin and that no vessels be permitted to be filled near the same point other than at the place provided for such purpose.
     Street and alley committee requested to have repairs made to water trough near old public well and to the street between Little Gin and stock pens.
     Ordered that closets on streets and alleys be screened from public view.
     Street and alley committee requested to have ditches near tire station and at other places opened and to inspect culvert near blacksmith shop of Sapp and have necessary improvements made thereto.
     Street and alley committee asked to purchase what scrapers the committee may deem necessary for street work.
     Moved by Alderman Robertson and seconded by Alderman Mires that city sell to J. C. Fountain for sum of $10 00 lot purchased by the city some years ago from M. B. Jones for gravel bed, all gravel having been used. Motion carried with understanding that Mr. Fountain furnish city free of cost gravel that may be desired for placing of the streets in that part of the city where said lot is located.
     Dr. Allen made verbal report as to small pox situation. He reported only two or three cases in the city and the situation entirely under control. Recommended permanent flag at pest house. Every precaution should be taken to exterminate mosquitoes. Stated that he would call on school Supt. Hudson and urge him to enforce the vaccination order passed by the school board some time since and that he would endeavor to ascertain the names of children whose vaccination did not take or who failed to be vaccinated.
     In consideration that Nash, Robinson & Co., construct a good gravel side walk along their property on north side of Live Oak street the council agreed to make no claim for past or future rental for use of property owned by city and now occupied by said company.
     Cash on hand as per treasurer's books: General fund, $2321.33; Street and alley fund, $1342.29; School house bond funds, $2757.77; Water works bond funds; 3478.82; Refunding bond funds, 2689.09.
     A. B. McBride and J. R. Taylor were granted a permit to use 250 gallons of artesian water daily for carbonating and bottling purposes they to pay $1.00 per month for same and to begin operations in thirty days.
     M. S. Slater and W. C. Clarke were granted use of twenty-five barrels of artesian water per day for bath house purposes at the price of $1.50 per month.
     Contract for official publicaitions for current year awarded to Marlin Ball.
