A LIVELY CHASE

Constable John P. Atkinson had a lively chase Monday afternoon after a negro whom he had arrested on a warrant from Milam county.
When he arrived at the Peacock corner and the negro saw the county jail, he attempted to trip the constable and broke away in a run with Atkinson right after him.
He ran through and out at the back door of Peacock's saloon and through the Arcade across Live Oak street and headed for the southern limits of the city.
The constable and a crowd of people gave pursuit but the fleet-footed son of Ham eluded his pursuers and made his escape.
