REPORTS OF BUSINESS LEAGUE
~~~~~
Showing Made For Work Done In
1903
~~~~~

     At a recent meeting of the board of directors of he Marlin Business League the executive committee and the treasurer were requested to prepare reports covering the work for the year 1903, said reports to be given out for publication for the information of the public.
The attention of our readers is called these reports, as it gives a clear insight what the league accomplished.
     As the, DEMOCRAT views it, these reports, as a whole, make up an excellent showing for the league and for Marlin. If there be those who are inclined to criticize, let them ask themselves this question: "What would have been accomplished without such an organization?", The answer will be "nothing," or very near it.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT.

     We your executive committee have the following statement to make concerning work done by and through the league for the year 1903:
     We employed and maintained from May to October splendid Mexican orchestra of five pieces.  This feature alone we consider was worth a great deal in the way of entertaining the many people that visit our city.
     Efforts were made and several organizations were induced to hold their annual sessions in our town. Among them were State Physicians association, State Post Masters Association and Mayors Association, and the State Teachers Association. We feel that this has been a good medium of advertising and are now beginning to get results.
     As to direct advertising; we bought several pages in Southern Pacific Railway booklet of which 100,000 were issued and circulated and run an advertisement in Dal-Gal. News during the months of June and July. AIso sent out several thousand of our folders, and printed envelopes.
     Besides all this, we set about to help to induce trade to our town by offering premiums for our first and second bales of cotton brought to this market and to offer ten valuable premiums during cotton season on coupon ticket plan. The drawing took place December 1st and the valuable prizes awarded according to announcement.  We have reason to believe good was accomplished. While our cotton receipts were very low, the yard men say quite a number of planters stated the prizes offered was what induced them to market their cotton here. We feel sure all of us will be fully repaid for the time and money expended last year.
     Below you will find itemized financial statement of the leagues work rendered by the treasurer.
