BRAZOS RIVER CONFERENCE.
-----
A Diversity of Opinion as to the Proper Way
to Proceed.
-----

The Brazos River Conference assembled at Navasota, engaged in quite an extended disscusion (sic) as to the best methods of relieving the farm lands of the Brazos of the overflows.
The discussions and opinions took a wide range and covered many theories.  Among them, widening the channel, deepening the channel, straightening the channel, leveeing, etc.
All agreed, however, that the state should take a hand, in the way of relieving the farmers along the river.  Some wanted to remit the taxes of the overflowed district, the same to be applied to the improvement of of (sic) the river.  Others wanted an amendment to the state constitution, creating taxing districts so that special taxes could be levied for the purpose of improving the river.
