FIRST BALE COTTON RECEIVED.

       The first new bale of the season was brought to town last Friday morning.  It was raised by the Marine brothers on the DeGraffenried farm, and was ginned by the Planters Gin Co.
       Two more bales were ginned by the Planters gin Wednesday and Thursday morning the Shankle, Levy and Gardner gin got their first bale.

Church Has Barbecue.

       The Christian church entertained its members with an all day barbecue and picnic.  The event which is an annual affair was held at Willow bend on the Brazos a short distance above the bridge.  Games were played all morning and at noon a bountiful meal of barbecue, fried chicken, made ice cream and other delicacies were served.  A great number of the crowd spent the afternoon in the water wading and swimming.  At four o'clock the group were called together aagin (sic) and fifty ice cold melons cut.
