To The Democrat:

    We had several days dry weather, but it rained a root soaker Wednesday.  We should not grumble or complain of so much rain and bad weather, for we had a dry fall and nearly three months to gather our crops.  Some of us are weak; we should learn to mix the sweet with the bitter.  That is the way "Simon" does when Mrs. "Reuben" gets after his dog and especially his cat with an oak chair.

    Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Westbrook visited relatives in Chilton Monday.

    Our old neighbor, Rev. J. R. Lane, is visiting his sister, Mrs. Nelson and daughter, Mrs. C. W. Lane and is grand son, Charles.

    There has been somewhat of a mineral well found on Col. Gaines farm.  It is said to be fine water, but Johnnie Martin says that Fred Price has the best water on (e)arth.

    Steve Maxey, C. F. Maulding, (a)nd L. L. Livingstone went to Marlin Monday.  Lawrence says they enjoyed the trip very much.

    The of Col. and Mrs. Gaines was the scene of a pleasant gathering of friends and rela(l)tives Monday afternoon to congratulate them on the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage.  They are the only ones living here now that were grown at that time.  The Colonel has passed his eighty-third mile post, and Mrs. Gaines is nearing seventy-eight.

    Mr. W. P. Sharp of West and Mr. Irwin of Ohio have moved on Mr. Douglas' place and is our near neighbor.  Simon hopes to live right that they may have the same feeling for him when we separate.

    Our Thanksgiving service was held at the Presbyterian church.  Services conducted by Rev. Amos and exercises by the children of the public school. Evermore,         Simon Reuben.

    Travis Tips.

To The Democrat:

    Mrs. Hammons left Wednesday for Marlin, where she will in future reside.

    Mrs. J. T. Twyman spent Monday in Rosebud.

    The remains of Mr. J. W. Montgomery, who died in Marlin, reached here Monday morning, at eight o'clock and at 9:30 were conveyed to the cemetery for interment.  The bereaved relatives have our sympathy.

    Arthur Cox of Durango visited friends here Sunday.

    Misses Hattie and Cora Gassaway visited Rosebud Monday.

    Mrs. S. A. Fisher and granddaughter, little Miss Louise Pender of Rosebud, were visiting here Tuesday.

    Mr. Lewis is having some improvements made on his residence.

    Erwin Lewellyn, of Sneed, was in our city Tuesday.

    Miss Myrtle Whiteside, who is teaching school near Durango, spent Saturday and Sunday with folks.

    While returning from Travis Tuesday afternoon the horse driven by Mises (sic) Allie Mae and Ada Tardy became frightened and ran away.  Both the young ladies escaped injury.  However, the vehicle was completely demolished.

    Bro. Isenhower of Waco filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church.
