ROSEBUD NEWS NOTES.
The News:
The ceremonies at the laying of the corner stone of the First Baptist church of
Rosebud Monday evening at 5 o'clock were very interesting. Rev. M. T.
Andrews of Marlin conducted the exercises, assisted by Revs. B. T. Goodwin,
Phillips Fitzgerald, Garrett and White.
Mr. E. H.
Smith of Mertens and Miss Mabel Asbury of this city were united in marriage at
Mart last Sunday at 2 p.m. Miss Mabel is the daughter of Mrs. J. T. Asbury
of this city, and has many friends here, all of whom will be pleased to learn of
her happy marriage.
P. Pieper
went to Austin to hob nob with the legislature for a few days. They
threatened to amend the stock law so that the stock maybe turned out at certain
times of the year in localities where the stock law is in force and the object
of Mr. Pieper's visit was to see if the threatened amendment could not be headed
off.
A large
number of our citizens met with Messrs Langhammer and McGuire of Brenham &
Brazos Valley railroad proposition. These gentlemen made short talks on
the various routes proposed, but nothing definite was agreed upon. Of
course Rosebud wants the road, but whether or not she will be able to make good
when the amount of bonus is agreed upon, is yet an unknown proposition.
But we feel assured that our people will contribute to this enterprise just as
liberally as possible.
