Submitted by Carolyn Allen:
I actually saw it in person a couple of years ago and immediately thought that
it could be
David W. Jones. He was the father of
Sarah Jones who was married to
Albert G. Tarver.
David W. Jones is listed on the 1860 Leake County, Mississippi
Federal Census with his family. He was born in Virginia and was 73 years
old. His daughter
Sarah was then 24 yrs. old and in 1864, she married
Albert G. Tarver in Leake County.
Albert G. Tarver came to the Rosebud area around 1872.
His family joined him there around that time and my feeling is that
D. W.
Jones came with
Sarah as he was old and she was probably looking after him.
He would have been around 90 when he died in 1879. I don't think they
kept up with exact ages too good in those days. It could very well be
that the nearby Confederate marker is that of his son-in-law,
Albert G. Tarver, who died in 1882. Somewhere nearby, in
an unmarked grave, lies
Sarah Tarver,
A. G. Tarver's wife |
