I always wondered why George Elijah McCreary left the Falls Co. area to live with his sister, Mary E (McCreary) Sale, and her family in Tulia, Swisher Co, TX. (according to the 1930 US Federal Census)  George’s wife and mother-in-law died in the family residence in Waco, TX, of the same illnesses, one week apart in Mar 1926.  Both were buried a week apart. Carolyn Elizabeth (Collins) Magee was buried at Beulah Cemetery and Lillie Alice (Magee) McCreary was buried at Clover Hill.

He must have been devastated to lose his wife and mother-in-law within the same week... and be powerless to help them as they agonized for many days.

Born in Conecuh Co., Alabama to Elijah and Mary (Autrey) McCreary of Conecuh Co., Alabama.  Elijah McCreary was the son of Adam and Susannah (Harley) McCreary of Conecuh Co., Alabama.  Adam was born in Barnwell Co., South Carolina and later settled in Alabama.  Adam McCreary was the son of “Barnwell” Robert and Mary (Fortune) McCreary of Barnwell Co., South Carolina.  Robert and Mary were both immigrants to the colonies around 1760.  Both were born in Ireland.  Mary (Fortune) McCreary’s parents were William Fortune, Sr. and Ann (possibly Fitzhenry) of Newry, County Down, Ireland.  Her parents and siblings also settled in South Carolina, by way of a ship (Britannia) from Ireland to Charleston.  Robert is believed to have been from Groomsport, Bangor Parish, County Down, Northern Ireland (East of Belfast).

Lillie Alice McCreary was born 18 Jul 1872 in Lott, Texas to Norvel Abner & Carolyn Elizabeth (Collins) Magee.  Both parents are buried in Beulah Cemetery and died at 11:20 AM on 22 Mar 1926.  53 yrs 8 mo 4 days.  The cause of her death was influenza (09 Mar 1926) complicated by pneumonia (14 Mar 1926).  She died at her family residence at 1413 South 7th St., Waco, McLennan Co., Texas.  Both parents born in Mississippi. Death Certificate witnessed by Ruby McCreary.  Puckett Funeral Parlor, Waco - body interred at Clover Hill Cemetery 23 Mar 1926.

She is the granddaughter of Calvin Magee and his first wife, Catherine Russell (Wilkinson) Magee.  Catherine died in Mississippi between 1850 and 1860. Calvin and his 2^nd wife, Mary Teresa (May) Magee are buried both buried, in Beulah Cemetery

Married about 1893 to George Elijah McCreary according to the 1900 US Federal Census for Lott, Falls Co., Texas, recorded on 16 Jun 1900

The date of birth and date of death for Lillie Alice come from her death certificate (see below).  The birth month, birth year, and date of death are corroborated by the 1900 and 1880 US Federal Censuses, as well as the Texas Death Index, 1903-2000.  George Elijah and Lillie Alice (Magee) McCreary had six children (George Earl, Ruby, Joseph Samuel, Frank Dubose, Alba, and Carrie).

Lillie and her mother died in same house, of the same illnesses, one week apart, in Mar 1926.  Both were buried a week apart. Carolyn Elizabeth (Collins) Magee was buried at Beulah Cemetery and Lillie Alice (Magee) McCreary was buried at Clover Hill.

George Elijah and Lillie Alice (Magee) McCreary are my great grandparents.  Their youngest son, Dr. Frank Dubose McCreary, Sr. (Lt. Col., U.S. Army) was my grandfather.  He and his wife, Mary Evalyn (Kimbrel) McCreary are interred at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.  Dr. McCreary's son, Frank Dubose McCreary, Jr. (Capt., U.S.A.F.), was my father.  He too is buried at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
