Jehu Williams, b 1825 in South Carolina, d 1890 at Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery-was the son of a veteran of the War of 1812, of South Carolina. During the Civil War, Jehu served in The Confederate States Army in Captain Joe Patterson's Company, Hardy's Regiment-enlisting in 1861, and serving until the end of the war. Jehu's mother received a pension for the service of her husband in the War of 1812.
Jehu Williams moved into Tennessee as a young man, and subsequently settled in Morgan County, Alabama-moving to Texas in 1869, where he first settled on Blue Ridge (present-day Stranger), in Falls County.
In 1846 in Alabama, Jehu Williams was married first to Martha Eden, born and reared in Morgan County, Alabama, died there in 1857-a daughter of James and Lucy (Walden) Eden, natives of Alabama. Jehu and Martha had four children:
Lucy Williams-who married Jacob Sumerell, of Texas.
James William Williams, b 1850-who married in 1876 to Aramantha Millerman-a daughter of John Sanford and Mary (Harlan) Millerman.
Susan Williams-who married Herod Freeman, of Texas.
Nancy Elizabeth Williams-who married S.D. Hightower, of Texas.
Jehu Williams was married second in Alabama to Mrs. Amanda (McDowell) Herring, and they also had four children:
Martha Williams-who married James P. Higgins.
Judson Williams-who married Temperance Mitchell-daughter of William Henry and Margaret Lucinda (Chamberlain) Mitchell. Judson was married second-name unknown.
Amanda Williams-who attended school in Leganon, Ohio. No further information.
Hannah Williams-who married Jesse Walter Saxon-son of Thomas Lewis and Eliza (Millerman) Saxon.
Jehu Williams brought his family and second wife to Texas in 1869-and initially lived in the area of present-day Stranger, where they were members of the Stranger Baptist Church, and later became active in Blue Ridge Baptist Church (present-day Blue Ridge). He served as a Deacon in his churches over a period of forty years, and was also a Mason.
There are descendants of Jehu Williams still residing in Falls County.
