Charles Williams
Charles Williams, b April 4, 1805 in
Spanish Louisiana, d July 7, 1862 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Jena
Cemetery in Falls County-was a son of Hezekiah and Nancy (Reams) Williams, Jr.,
who were married ca 1803 in St. Helena Parish, in the West Florida Partition of
Spanish Louisiana. Hezekiah Williams II, and three of his brothers, fought in
the Battle of 1812 in New Orleans, which helped win the territory for the
Colonists-although their father, Hezekiah Williams I, whose wife was Rhoda
Burgess, had been a "Loyalist" to the English Crown during the American
Revolutionary War, and had his lands confiscated because of that loyalty.
Charles Williams
was married September 26, 1829 in St. Helens Parish, Louisiana to Emily
Patterson, b January 11, 1815 in Louisiana, d December 14, 1859 in Falls County,
Texas and buried in Jena Cemetery-was a daughter of Eli and Truzilla (Sattoon)
Patterson. In 1832, Charles and Emily moved from Louisiana in the area which
became Jefferson County, Texas. Traveling with them were their parents, and
siblings.
On October 27,
1834, Charles was given Character Certificates from Benjamin Lindsey; and on
December 24, 1834, he received a grant for a league of land on Taylor's Bayou,
by the Mexican Government. Prior to the Texas Declaration, he was a Private in
Captain A. Briscoe's Company of Stephen F. Austin's Texas Army, and was later in
the Battle of San Jacinto. His father, Hezekiah Williams, Jr., was in charge of
supplies in the camp, south of San Jacinto, during that battle. He had also
received a grant from the Mexican Government for a league of land; and another
son, Hezekiah Reams Williams, had received a grant for only one-quarter league,
as he was not then married. For their service to the Republic of Texas Army,
each received another 320 acres of land.
In 1854, Charles
and Emily (Patterson) Williams settled in Falls County, Texas-near the Jena
Community, where they lived the rest of their lives. Charles bought land from
Reuben and Susan Cornutt in February 1857, and also in November 1857, he bought
additional land from George and Margaret Gray, which had also previously been
Cornutt land.
Charles and
Emily (Patterson) Williams had fifteen children, but three died in infancy, and
only twelve have been identified. They were:
Eli W. Williams,
b December 5, 1830 in Louisiana, d October 17, 1869 and buried in Old Shiloh
Cemetery at Troy, Texas-married first in 1853 to Eleanor Thompson, and had Emily
Eliza Williams who married J.B. Kegans; George L. Williams; and Allen F.
Williams. He married second in 1861 to Alice Bray, and had four
daughters-including Lilly Williams who married a Mr. Gunn; Sally Williams who
married a Mr. Fears; and Betty Williams who married a Mr. Murry. After Eli's
death, his widow remarried a Mr. Young, and she moved the family to Bell County,
Texas.
Trusilla Luvenia Williams (called "Zilla"), b 1832 in Louisiana-married in 1848
in Jefferson County, Texas to Edward R. Hiram Thompson, b 1823 in Arkansas. By
1860, the family were residing in Falls County, Texas with three children, but
had moved away by 1870. No further information.
Nancy Williams,
b August 20, 1834 in Jefferson County, Texas (then Mexico), d January 5, 1909
and buried at Stamford, Jones County, Texas-married January 26, 1860 in Falls
County, Texas to James Alexander Thompson, b April 17, 1838 in Georgia, d
January 1910 and buried at Stamford-a son of J.G. and Eliza (Toland) Thompson.
Their children were all born in Bell County, Texas, and were: Andrew Calvin
Thompson, b January 15, 1861; Eleanor Ellen Thompson, b July 7, 1866 who married
James William Talley; Marion Stockton Thompson, b June 10, 1870; Nora Phoebe
Thompson, b July 13, 1873 who married Albert Bedford Shield; Ida Truzilla
Thompson, b November 24, 1875, d April 15, 1876; and James Marvin Thompson,
M.D., b May 6, 1877.
Eveline
Williams, b 1837 in Jefferson County, The Republic of Texas, married first to a
Mr. Cornutt-who died before 1860; married second on April 21, 1861 in Falls
County, Texas to Calvin White; and married third to Travis Pevehouse (called
"Tab"), and had one daughter, Pebble Pevehouse, who married a Mr. Ratliff.
John Reams
Williams, b 1839 in Jefferson County, The Republic of Texas-married Dollie
(maiden name unknown). It has been reported that both died in Falls County,
Texas during an epidemic prior to 1870.
Sam Houston
Williams, b December 5, 1840 in Jefferson County, The Republic of Texas, d April
2, 1926 in Coleman County, Texas and buried there in White Chapel
Cemetery-married January 7, 1866 in Bell County, Texas to Harriet McDonald. They
had four daughters.
Lawson Charles
Williams, b July 25, 1842 in Jefferson County, The Republic of Texas, d March 9,
1920 and buried in Oddfellows Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas-was often recorded
as Charles Lawson, but always called "Lawson." In 1866, Lawson was married to
Nancy Jane Waddell (called "Jennie"), b October 10, 1841 in Mississippi, d
November 9, 1879 and buried in Oddfellows Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas. Jennie
and her brother, John, were orphaned in Attala County, Mississippi prior to
1850, and were residing in the of a Minister's family-the Isaac Wells
family, of Georgia. Jennie was two years older then her brother, John. They were
the parents of four children: Florence Williams, b January 12, 1867; Henry
Morton Williams, b May 22, 1868; Waddell Pierce Williams, b May 11, 1870; and
Myron L Williams, b December 9, 1875.
James Monroe
Williams, b June 10, 1844 in Jefferson County, The Republic of Texas, d December
1, 1902 in Coleman County, Texas-married December 22, 1866 in Bell County, Texas
to Mary Kegans, and had five children.
Hezekiah
Williams (called "Ki"), b March 28, 1846 in Jefferson County, Texas, d September
8, 1913 in Sherwood, Irion County, Texas and buried in Jena Cemetery, Falls
County, Texas-married first on January 20, 1870 in Falls county, Texas to Susan
E. Bull, but had no children before she died; married second in 1878 to Donia
Elizabeth Short, and had a daughter, Mynnie Elizabeth.
William Oliver
Williams, b 1851 in Jefferson County, Texas, died in Coleman County,
Texas-married Mary Johnigan (calles "Millie"). He was a farmer; and they had
three daughters.
Marion Merriman
Williams, b 1853 in Jefferson County, Texas, d 1934 in Longview, Gregg County,
Texas-married Mary Alice Tweedle, and had ten children. No further information.
Moses Allen
Williams, b January 5, 1845 in Jena, Falls County, Texas-married Martha
Carleton, and had seven children. No further information.
Two of the
infants who died were names Rachel Williams, and Emily Williams. The name of the
third infant who died has not been found.
Some of the descendants of Charles and Emily (Patterson) Willims reside in Marlin, Falls County, Texas; however many other of their descendants reside in Bell County, as the community of Jena lies close to its eastern line.

I have the following on Susan C. Bull, b. 9/25/1850, d. 5/26/1936, m. 1-
Hezekiah Williams on 1/20/1870 then m. 2- William D. Jayroe on 5/4/1893. She
died 5/26/1936.
Susan C. Bull was the daughter of Johnson and Susan Daniel Bull. She was born in
Ashley County, Arkansas and died in Novice, Coleman County, Texas. She's buried
in Rough Creek Cemetery.
Johnson is the son of Robert Bull and Susanah Sullivan Bull. He's the grandson
of Ambrose and Elizabeth Johnson Bull.
