ELZA L. WALSTON

 

 

     Elza L. Walston, b February 27, 1888, d June 19, 1976 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - was a son of James K. Walston, of Milam County, Texas.

     Elza was married to Julia Elizabeth Hardy, b February 11, 1888, d July 28,1966 - a daughter of Hiram Phillip Hardy, b October 22, 1858 at Carthage, d January 23, 1958 in Marlin, and his wife, Henry Ann (Jones) Hardy, who died on June 11, 1940 at Calvert, Texas.

     Elza and Julia Elizabeth moved to Marlin, Falls County, Texas, where their four children were born:

     James Henry Walston, b ca 1914 - married Mildred Barton - daughter of John Herman and Emma (Bradshaw) Barton, and moved to Port Arthur, Texas.

     Jack Walston, b ca 1916 in Marlin - married Eleanor Jones - daughter of Hardy and Genevieve (Fife) Jones. Jack was a Jeweler until his retirement. They had two daughters: Gail Walston, b ca 1942 in Marlin - married Wayne Pearson, owner of Rush's Tru Value Hardware Company; and Jacki Walston, b ca1945.

     Elza L. Walston, Jr. (called "Jiggs"), b November 8, 1918 - married Edna Ann Bingham (called "Jacki"), b October 2, 1922, d December 21, 1980 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin. Jiggs attended Sam Houston University at Huntsville, and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 during World War II - serving in the United States. He has been in the banking business in Marlin, being employed at Central Texas Savings and Loan Association, and presently with the Marlin National Bank. He and Jacki had children.

     Jane Ann Walston, b ca 1924-married in 1946 to Robert Price Thigpen, of Chilton, Texas.

     I am the daughter of Elza L. Walston, Jr and Edna PAULINE Bingham Walston.  My grandparents were Elza L. Walston, Sr. and Julia Etta Hardy Walston.  Julia is the daughter of Henry An Jones Hardy.  Elza and Julia had five (5) children.  James Henry / Jack Hardy / Elza L, Jr / Jane Ann and Hiram Phillip, (known to most people as Buddy).  Of these children Jack / Elza L. (Jiggs) and Buddy are dec'd.  Jiggs died 06/30/2000.
