WILLIAM PRICE VINSON

William Price Vinson, b January 16, 1865 in Giles County, Tennessee, d June 23, 1940 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery --- was one of ten children of Elisha Louis Vinson, b July 6, 1823 in Tennessee, d September 6, 1873 of rabies, and his wife, Lucy Ann (Davis) Vinson, b September 10, 1828 in Tennessee, d there July 8, 1891.
On December 27, 1887, William Price Vinson was married to Sallie Belle Davis, b April 7, 1870 in Tennessee, d August 23, 1956 in Falls County and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin --- a daughter of Thomas Calvin and Susan Elizabeth (Kilpatrick) Davis of Tennessee.
In 1889, William P. and "Sallie" moved to Stranger, Falls County; and after ten years, they leased a farm on the Moses Levy land at Alto Springs, where they lived fourteen years. In 1910, the family moved to the T. E. Battle farm west of Marlin, where he was farm manager. In 1926, they family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to manage Farm "23" -- part of the Taft Ranch which was owned by Joseph Edward Garrett -- son of Robert Jasper and Mary ("Mollie") (Smith) Garrett of the Stranger Community.
In 1930, William and Sallie Belle Vinson returned to Marlin, Texas, where he operated a filling station and motel on Commerce Street until his death in 1940.
William Price and Sallie Belle (Davis) Vinson were parents of five children:
Nettie Tennessee Vinson, b january 5, 1889 in Prospect, Gilles County, Tennessee, d October 21, 1971 in Falls County , Texas ---married first to Calvin W. Bratton, Jr., b August 14, 1888, d 1945, and had Rice Sewell Bratton, b October 18, 1909, d October 26, 1972 who married Georgia Ann Moseley, b September 19, 1912. Netti married second to Joe Phillips, b February 8, 1885, d May 4, 1963. For many years, Nettie was a clerk in a Marlin Department Store.
Florence Myrtle Vinson, b July 21, 1890, d November 6, 1971 ---married Clyde Edward Tate, b March 2, 1888, d March 31, 1956 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. Myrtle was a Retail Buyer in the R. E. Cox & Co. Store in Marlin.
Annie Verrena Vinson, b April 24, 1894, d November 7, 1985 --- married February 3, 1916 on the Battle Farm west of Marlin, Falls County, Texas to Robert Charles Norwood, b February 24, 1894, d March 19, 1958. He worked for the Gulf Oil Company, and was a son of William Thomas and Agnes (McBryde) Norwood.
Sallie Beatrice Vinson, b February 26, 1896, d February 25, 1983 in Marlin. She was never married.
