JAMES HANSFORD ("DICK") TATE

 

 

     James Hansford Tate (always called "Dick"), b October 28, 1891 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d there October 11, 1947 and buried in the Stranger Cemetery - was a son of Edward S. and Mary Jane ("Mollie" Arnett) Tate. On December 17, 1918 in Falls County, he married Una Pearl Cornelison, b July 10, 1891 at Blue Ridge, d February 2, 1980 at Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas and buried by her husband in Stranger Cemetery - a daughter of Samuel Milton and Mildred Ellen (Swinnea) Cornelison.

     Una attended Sam Houston Normal School at Huntsville, Texas from 1908 to 1910, and taught in the Falls County schools 1910-1919. She returned to teaching in 1926, retiring in 1935. During World War I, she was called back into teaching service. "Dick" was a successful farmer and rancher, and they purchased land on Bald Hill in Falls County, built their home, and resided there most of their married life. They had two sons:

     Milton Scott Tate, b October 13, 1919, d August 22, 1920 and was buried in the family plot in the Stranger Cemetery.

     Edward Rice Tate (called "Ed"), b July 29, 1922, resides in Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas. On August 29, 1946, he married Norma Jo Allen, and they have two sons: James Edward Tate ("Jim"), b October 7, 1950, and Lloyd Gregory Tate ("Greg"), b October 27, 1956.

     James Hansford and Una Pearl (Cornelison) Tate were members of the Presbyterian Church.
