CHESTER WRIGHT TATE

 

     Chester Wright Tate, b June 5, 1914 in the Blue Ridge Community, Falls County, Texas - was a son of Fletcher and Effie (Swinnea) Tate. He was reared on the farm with his siblings, Mary Beth and Margaret Ann Tate.

     On April 21, 1935 in Marlin, Texas, Chester was married to Amelia Myrtlene Criswell, b June 17, 1916 in the Criswell Community of Falls County near Odds, Texas, d August 6, 1974 in Marlin and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - a daughter of Thomas Turner and Mary Amelia (McKinley) Criswell.

     Chester sold his farming interests in 1957, being employed by the General Tire Company of Waco, Texas, where he became a Supervisor before his thirty- one year of service retirement.

     Chester and Myrtlene were members of the First Baptist Church of Marlin. She worked at Torbett - Hutchings-Smith Hospital as an Allergy Technician, and they lived in Marlin, Texas, where their three children attended the Marlin schools. The children were:

     David Wright Tate, b December 22, 1936, d February 9, 1983 in a Waco hospital and was buried in Cal- vary Cemetery by his mother. He was a 1955 graduate of Marlin High School, and attended The University of Texas in Austin, and Baylor University. David was employed by International Harvester Company in Waco, Texas, from which he retired in 1970 due to ill health. On February 21, 1959, he was married to Norma Kay Byrd - daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Byrd of Marlin, and they were the parents of two children: David Wright Tate, Jr., and Donna Kay Tate.

     Amy Caroline Tate, b March 7, 1939 - was a Marlin High School graduate and attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She has been employed as a Laboratory Technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital for about twenty years, and has not married.

     Thomas Arnett Tate, b March 5, 1943 - was a 1962 graduate of Marlin High School, and obtained a B.S. degree from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He was employed by the First State Bank of Marlin, and subsequently became a Vice-President of Marlin National Bank. On March 27, 1964, "Tommy" married Anita Fillip, b February 28, 1943 in Falls County - a daughter of George and Ruby (Smith) Fillip. Anita is a teacher in the Marlin Independent School District, and Tommy and Anita have three children: Thomas Dean Tate, b March 19, 1969; Drew Fillip Tate, b September 22, 1971; and Adam Lee Tate, b May 23, 1977 in Marlin.

     On July 4, 1975, Chester Wright Tate married second to Mrs. Pauline (Criswell) Denard - widow of Charles Thomas Denard, and a daughter of John Leroy and Mariah Victoria (Brown) Criswell.
