Sometime around 1896, Arthur, along with his father Lee, and step-brother Dan, left Holly Springs, MS and traveled to the Falls County, Texas community of Cego, where they took up residence with Arthur’s older brother, Luther Lee, who had moved to Texas a few years before.            James Arthur Stewart suffered for over six years with what was called at that time “weeping” eczema. The skin disease spread throughout his body. In an attempt to control the disease, his wife, Minnie, took him to the best skin specialist in the South. He was treated with radium, but unfortunately the dosage given was too high and it resulted in the poison being driven farther into his body, and served to hasten his death. He passed away on March 17, 1928. He was only 51 years old. He is buried at Beulah/Hoolia Cemetery, in Falls County, along with his wife, Minnie, who passed away September 23, 1970, and their daughter, Josephine, who died in 1911.
