JAMES MILAM NEAL

     James Milam Neal, b June 20,1889 in Mississippi, d March 9, 1978 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott - was a son of Charles Lavaca and Anna Lisa (Porter) Neal. On February 19, 1910, James married Nora Mae Manning, b August 3, 1892 in Hamilton County, Texas, d November 8, 1972 and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott - a daughter of Hillery and Adeline (Franks) Manning of Coryell County, Texas who both died in California. Nora lived with her grandparents in Burlington, Falls County, where she met and married James.

     James and Nora Neal farmed on the Arnold farm west of the Hamilton School in Falls County, and then leased other farms - including the Ocker and Boehme farms. The children rode horseback to school at Sneed - Kasner, to the eighth grade, and then attended the Live Oak School near Lott. The family moved to the C. L. Trice farm near Lott, and three of the children were then able to attend Lott High School.

     In 1940, James moved his family north of Chilton, and he worked at the Rocketdyne Plant in McGregor, Texas during World War II. In 1944, they moved to Chilton, where they managed a restaurant until their retirement.

     James Milam and Nora Mae (Manning) Neal had ten children:

     Gladys Inez Neal, b July 2, 1911 at Rosebud, was a Lott High School graduate, and married February 8, 1931 to Edgar Escar Sudduth of Lott.

     Evelyn Faye Neal, b February 16, 1913 in Rosebud, d February 7, 1984 - married George Ambers Martin.

     James Russell Neal, b January 24, 1915 in Rosebud-married October 24,1932 to Beatrice McKelroy.

     Wilma Mae Neal, b July 4, 1917 in Rosebud- married in 1936 to Edwin William Odenbach, who is now deceased.

     Perry Lee Neal, b October 13, 1919 in Rosebud, was a Lott High School graduate - married Larene Cottam. He taught school at Live Oak, and enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II.

     Mary Doris Neal, b December 14,1922 in Rosebud, was a Lott High School graduate - married October 30,1942 to Frank Lacina, Jr.

     Anita Louise Neal, b June 6, 1925 in Lott - married March 9, 1946 to Cecil M. Jones.

     Billie Ruth Neal, b March 21,1928 in Lott - married Richard E. Goode.

     Kenneth Ray Neal, b November 13, 1930 in Lott - married in 1954 to Delores Meyers.

     Gayle Nelson Neal, b March 4, 1933 in Lott, d February 10, 1940 of pneumonia.
