Winfield Scott Hunnicutt, b.
September 16, 1828 in Giles County, Tennessee, d. February 8, 1908 in Falls
County, Texas-was a son of William Hunnicutt, b. October 18, 1790 in Virginia,
d. in 1861, and his wife, Joanna Barber, b. 1792 in Virginia, d. 1871 in Falls
County, Texas. On February 17, 1848 in Tennessee, Winfield Scott married Lucinda
Smith, b. October 27, 1832, d. June 11, 1922-a daughter of Isaac Smith, b. June
18, 1792 in Tennessee, d. July 26, 1868 in Falls County, Texas and buried in
Blue Ridge Cemetery, and his wife, Elizabeth S. ("Betsy" Isaacs) Smith, b.
November 28, 1812 in Tennessee, d. July 11, 1876 and buried by her husband. In
the Fall of 1850, Winfield Scott and Lucinda (Smith) Hunnicutt moved from
Tennessee to Texas-settling in Falls County in the Blue Ridge Community. In
1850, he purchased land on the Peter Kendall Survey. In 1854 he bought
additional land from David Barclay, and in 1862, he purchased land from Charles
Harlan on his portion of the Isaiah Harlan Survey. The early road to Marlin went
through the "Hunnicutt Hill" property.
Winfield Scott and Lucinda (Smith) Hunnicutt had 17 children-most of whom lived
nearby and are buried in the Hunnicutt family lot of Blue Ridge Cemetery about
two miles south of the old family home:

March 1, 1920 in Brookhaven, Mississippi-married William Davis of Mississippi.
Martha Ann Hunnicutt, b. February 15, 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee, d.
February 19, 1934 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas-married George Wesley Barnes,
b. 1843, d. 1935.
William Wesley Hunnicutt, b. November 26, 1851 in Falls County, Texas, d. April
17, 1932 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas-married Jessie Robertson.
Robert Smith Hunnicutt, b. May 2, 1853 in Falls County, Texas, d. April 9, 1932
in Marlin, Falls County, Texas-married Rosella Varnado, b. February 6, 1861 in
Mississippi, d. May 31, 1932.
Hiram Taylor Hunnicutt, b. December 21, 1854 in Falls County, Texas, d. March 3,
1881 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas-married Stella Moore.
Isaac Newton Hunnicutt, b. January 6, 1857 in Falls County, Texas, d. September
11, 1937-married Mrs. Austin or Alston.
Edward Hunnicutt, b. December 14, 1858 in Falls County, Texas, died June 25,
1877 at age 18 years, 6 months.
Joanna Barber Hunnicutt, b. August 7, 1860 in Falls County, Texas, d. July 2,
1877 at age 16 years, 11 months.
Winfield Scott Hunnicutt, Jr., b. May 21, 1862 in Falls County, Texas-d. March
18, 1944-a bachelor.
Bessie Earl Hunnicutt, b. February 20, 1864 in Falls County, Texas-married Dr.
F. M. Johnson.
Walter Emmett Hunnicutt, b. June 11, 1865 in Falls County, Texas, d. 1936 and
buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas-married Mattie Kyser, b. 1874, d.
1962.
Alice Oneal Hunnicutt, b. August 3, 1867 in Falls County, Texas, d. September
18, 1918 in Falls County-was not married.
Garnett May Hunnicutt, b. September 13, 1869 in Falls County, Texas, d. October
14, 1944 in Hobbs, New Mexico-married George Massengale.
Orcenith Fisher Hunnicutt, b. March 4, 1871, d. October 2, 1950-a bachelor.
Dolly Viola Hunnicutt, b. May 8, 1872, d. April 1, 1945-married Dr. S. Bowers,
and had no children. She taught school many years.
Fannie Hunnicutt, b. January 30, 1874 in Falls County, Texas, d. November 17,
1956-was not married. She taught school many years.
Maud Pearl Hunnicutt, b. June 15, 1876 in Falls County, Texas, d. July 26,
1951-married Allen Ketchum Agan.
Winfield Scott Hunnicutt served as a Deputy District Surveyor of the Robertson
Land district, and served his precinct as a Justice of the Peace for three
terms. He was the County Commissioner of his precinct for two terms. He had
become a Mason in 1849 in the Elkton Lodge, No. 24 in Tennessee, and was one of
the organizers of the Marlin Lodge, no. 152, of which he was a Master for some
time. Winfield Scott and Lucinda (Smith) Hunnicutt were members of the Methodist
Episcopal Church South, of which he served as Steward for a number of years.

I know that the book, Families of Falls County, is reliable and likely enjoys
considerable supporting documentation.
I believe it is important to point out that the reference to Winfield Scott
Hunnicutt's father, William Hunnicutt, may contain an error.
In the 1850 Census for Giles County Tennessee, District 1, page 450, household
number 615, family number 615, William Honeycut (Hunnicutt), at age 60, reports
he is a Weaver, with $4000 value of real estate, and his place of birth as North
Carolina and not Virginia as stated in this bio and in the Families of Falls
County.
