James W. Adair
James W. Adair, b ca 1824 in South Carolina, d February 17, 1853 in Coosa
County, Alabama and his will files there - was the eldest of ten children of
Joseph and Ann (Bishop) Adair, natives of South Carolina.
On August 19, 1846, James
married to Alcey Eliza Dillard, b January 25, 1828 in Laurens District, South
Carolina, d March 10, 1912 and buried at Big Hill Limestone County, Texas. James
W. and Alcey Eliza Adair had four children, with the youngest born three months
after his death.
When a group of Alcey's family immigrated to Falls County, Texas after the Civil
War, Alcey and her four young children came with them - including her
son-in-law, Samuel B. Hancock, and his mother, Mrs. Sarah Holliday Hancock.
Alcey's two brothers, Odell Duckett Dillard, and Thomas Milton Dillard, with her
cousin, Jesse Burke, and others had left Alabama earlier, and settled in the
Blue Ridge area.
Samuel M. Adair, b 1847 in Alabama, died in Texas - married Anna E. Davis.
Louisa Jane Adair, b 1848 in Alabama, d 1892 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas -
married first ca 1866 in Alabama to Samuel B. Hancock, b 1842 in Alabama, d 1871
in Falls County, Texas, and had Catherine Victoria, b 1867, d 1871 in Falls
County; and Holman Kendal Hancock, b 1869 in Texas. Louis Jane (Adair) Hancock
married second in 1871 to Harris Kay and had Fleetwood Kay and Saleta Kay.
Franklin Ann Adair, b 1851 in Alabama--moved to Limestone County, Texas. No
further information.
Lydia Ann Adair, b June 10, 1853 in Alabama, d March 19, 1884 in Limestone
County, Texas - married December 5, 1872 to Hugh Archibald Leach, b. September
7, 1848 in Tallapossa County, Alabama, date of death unknown. They had five
children: Adner Rilla Leach, b October 13, 1873 at Bill Hill, Limestone County;
Thomas Jefferson Leach, b December 17, 1874; Mary Elizabeth Leach, b March 17,
1876, d July 1959--married August 5, 1894 to John Harvey Rogers; Hugh Archibald
Leach, Jr. b February 16, 1878, d November 18, 1883; and Ernest Ripley Leach, b
January 31, 1881;
James W. Adair never lived in Falls County, Texas - and his widow lived here
only a few years; but some of his descendants have lived here for many years.
