This team won the county championship for its class in 1931 and played in the State Tournament in Austin that year. I believe they came in 2nd place in the state. My Mother has the medal my Dad received from the tournament. Front row center - man named Hawkins holding ball Second row left end - John Richard Campbell (Dad's 1st cousin) Second row, 2nd from right - Elliott Owen Gorman (my Dad) He was nearly 20 years of age here. Back in those days there was no eligibility rules as today. He continued to enroll in school for the singular purpose of playing basketball for about 2 years after he should have graduated. |
