[Probably Midlothian Paper October 1933]

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Friday afternoon, Oct 27, for E. K. Ward, who passed away at his farm home Wednesday night.

He was born in Camden, Miss., on Oct 31, 1840, to Dr. John Kidd Ward and Elizabeth Simpson Ward, owners of a plantation home. He was twelve years of age at the outbreak of the Civil War. Their home was destroyed by Yankee troops and the papers proving their ownership were destroyed and they lost their home. They then went to Oak Hill, La., and were there at the time of the fall of Vicksburg. After the fall the family came to Texas as refugees and stopped in Freestone county, later moving to Jewett in Leon County.

He was married to Miss Fannie Evans on Feb. 19, 1874, three years later they moved to the home where they spent a long and happy life together, rearing their large family of useful men and women.

Mr. Ward was loved and honored by all who knew him. His neighbors of 59 years, were his most devoted friends. His personal qualities of unselfishness, unwavering integrity were outstanding, his was a hale, wholesome life, lived out to its full term of years.

About thirty years ago he was baptized into the Church of Christ. He tried to live as he believed one should --- "kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love. A doer of the Word and not a hearer only."

As an expression of the esteem in which Mr. Ward was held, the Methodist church was crowded with friends, many of them his aged pioneer neighbors, and his grave in the Midlothian cemetery was covered with beautiful flowers.

Rev. J. W. W. Shuler, pastor of the Methodist church was in charge of the services. Rev. Everett Patterson of Bethel, a life-long friend of the family, delivered the eulogy and Rev. Norman, pastor of the First Baptist church in Waxahachie, led the closing prayer. His favorite songs were sung by a quartette composed of Rev. Arthur DeLoach, Supt. L. A. Mills, Mill Lois Dillard and J. H. Ramer.

Surviving him is his wife, whom he wed nearly sisty years ago; eleven children, Mrs. Bessie Isabell, Maypearl; Mrs. Lilla Wallace, Burleson; Mrs. May Burleson, Waxahachie; Royal A. Ward, Ballinger; Mrs. A. A. Wallace, Midlothian; Mrs. D. T. Hayes, Fort Worth; Joe E. Ward, Dallas; Miss Elizabeth Ward, C. E., H. L. and Elgin Ward of Midlothian. One child died in infancy and one daughter, the former Mrs. W. A. Few, died ten years ago. Besides these he took three orphaned children to raise. One died at the age of four. The two living are Crowell Turner of Philadelphia, Pa., and Clifton Turner of Carter, Okla.

There are 35 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. One living brother, F. G. Ward of Plains, Texas.
