Obituary

L. A. Daffan

The sad news reached our town Monday night that Col. L. A. Daffan died suddenly in Ennis. He was born sixty-two years ago in Alabama and grew up in Texas. He fought in Hood's Brigade in the CSA and was under Longstreet at Gettysburg and later at Chickamauga. He leaves a family of six children.

Active pall bearers from the Masonic brotherhood included: P.Freeman, John M. Loggins, Lee Caldwell, W. E. Chapman, E. D. Meredith, J. S. Telfair, C. H. McDuffie, Jack Loggins and Pat Loggins. Honorary pall bearers, close personal friends of the colonel's were: Judge George  Aldridge, Robert D. Berry and N. B. Graber, Dallas; Stephen Noble, Fort Worth; J C. Loggins, Capt. W. N. George, Dr. T. C. May, Joe W. Allison, William Higgenbotham, J. Blakey, Capt. William Gaston, Dr. Hooper, Jere Clare, A. J. Rushing, Charles M. Lattimer, J. H. Hardy, J. J. Giddings, A. Wescott of Houston and Judge John West of Waco.
