Formal Acceptance of N. P. Sims Library

The inauguration of Dr. A. E. Turner as President of Trinity University and the dedication of the new N. P. Sims Public Library tonight mark the begnning of an epoch for Waxahachie ad Ellis County.

It was the 36th anniversary for Trinity University and in honor of the occasion, Dr. Turner was installed today as its president for the third time. He was elected last summer and assumed his duties in September, but his formal installation was postponed until today at which time it was decided to hold the dedication ceremonies of the new Sims Library.

People began arriving here last night - many for a distance - and as the hour approached for the program, the streets of University Hill were black with buggies and other conveyances and the large auditorim was filled to overflowing with people standing in the hall and adjoining rooms.

The program opened with vocal music rendered by the University Glee Club. The next speaker was Mrs. Percy V. Pennybacker, author of a Texas history whose topic addressed co-educationl of the sexes taking the position that girls should receive the same college training given boys

F. N. Drone, member of the Board of Trustees, introduced Dr. S P. Brooks, President of Baylor University, whose address was entitled "Fraternal College Greetings."

Rev. W. J. Darley of Evansville, Ind., educational secretary of he Cumberland Pesbyterian Church, discussed he educational work of the church.

Lunch was seeved at the girls' hall to the special guests of the University and Sims Library.

The afternnoon program began with the academic procession of the faculty, graduating class, speakers and representatives from other colleges.

After a musical rendition by the Wise Orchestra, Rev. S. M. Templton of Clarksville offered an eloquent prayer.

Greetings from the University were extended by Dr S. L. Hornbeak, Dean.  Hon. W. F. Ramsey of Clebrne was introduced and spoke of "the Sons of Trinity." This was followed by "Daughters of Trinity" given by Mrs. Susan Foster Roberts.

Dr. Charles F Thwing, President of the Western Reserve University of Cleveland, Ohio, delivered the principal address of the day, - "Historic Types of the University."

Judge M.B. Templeton of Waxahachie, then formally presented the keys to President A E. Turner who responded in an address, "The Primacy of the American College  in National Life."  The college yell was given in greeting to Dr Turner as he rose to make his address.  After his speech his mother received a touching greeting  from  the entire audience.

A reception  at the home of Judge Templetn, hosted by the Alumni Association and former University students was attended by a large number of guests and Waxahachie citizens.
