Y. C. Edmondson

Ent Conf Service April 19, 1861, Pvt Co G 1st Tenn Inf; taken prisoner 3 July 1863 Gettysburg; released 27 March 1865 Richmond, Va; paroled at Gainesville Ala April 8, 1865.

The Fayetteville [Tenn] Observer Oct. 10, 1907, gives a thrilling acct of Comrade Edmondson's war record from Richmond to Gettysburg,  Imprisonment and escape from Ft. Delaware, was on furlough, but was in Battle of Chickamauga.  His leave of absence was extended, he carried first news of the battle into Tennessee.  Later was wounded & captured, tried and condemned as a spy to be shot.  Gov. Andrew Johnson, being an intimate friend of the family, was asked by comrade Edmondson's mother to intercede and he gave her a letter to President Lincoln who granted him a pardon.  He became a Prisoner of war and exchanged.
