Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 23 at 4:30 o'clock at the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Emma M. York, 87, who died Saturday at her home, after an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. York had received a broken hip when she fell at her home more than a month ago. She was carried to a hospital in Abilene and was only recently returned to her home here in Spur.

Rev. Raymond Van Zandt, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiated and burial was in the Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Emma M. York, 87, Sunday afternoon, March 23 at 4:30 at the First Methodist Church, Rev. Raymond Van Zandt officiating, assisted by Rev. L.R. Stuckey of Jayton.

Mrs. York, who died at her home Saturday, March 22, after an illness of several weeks, was born in Lee County near Lexington, Texas in 1859, living there until her marriage to W.D. York. Mr. And Mrs. York lived in Lavaca, Falls and Mills counties before moving to Dickens County in 1923 and have made their home here since. She was affiliated with the Methodist church early in life.

Two children were born to this union. Mrs. A.B. Stuckey and Mrs. Jeff James, both of Spur, seven step children also survive, W.B. York, Mrs. Neddie Bronson, Mrs. Lula Hall, Mrs. Gladys Brown, Mrs. Mae Howe all of Spur and Mrs. Lelia Moore of Santa Anna, all present for the funeral. John E. York, a son living at Rosebud, Texas was unable to be present for the funeral 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive besides her husband, W.D. York.

One sister, Mrs. Nettie Preston and one brother, Clint Jackson, both of Lexington survive.

Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, C.G. Bronson, Billy Ray James, Ray Brown, A.B. Stuckey, Jr., William Brown and John Wesley Brown.

Flower bearers were granddaughters, Odell James, Eva Bilberry, Lelia Cunningham, Mrs. Ruby Stanley, Mrs. Velma Williams, Mrs. Fay Hill, Mrs. Mable Duncan and Mrs. Oleta Keen.

Three granddaughters who were unable to attend the funeral were Mrs. Leota Hammonds of Solana Beach, California, Mrs. Edith King, Sonoma, California and Miss Louise Mae York of Rosebud. Two grandsons unable to attend were Cecil Bronson of Arizona and Willie York, San Antonio.

"Uncle Bill" York, 92, widely known Dickens Countian, died February 22, 1951. Services were read in First Methodist Church at 4 p.m. February 23. Rev. Marshall Morrison officiated, assisted by Rev. C. Melvin Ratheal.

York was married to Emma Jackson who preceded him in death on March 22, 1947.

Survivors include seven daughters; Mrs. A.B. Stuckey, Mrs. Ivy James, Mrs. Nettie Bronson, Mrs. Lela Hill, Mrs. Mae Howe, Mrs. Gladys Brown, all of Spur; Mrs. Lela Moore, Santa Anna; two sons: Bernard York, Spur, and John York, Rosebud; one brother, Ike, Portland, TX and four sisters: Mrs. Jane Crouch, Alvin, TX, Mrs. Fannie Duben, Molton, TX; Mrs. Kelly Hairgrove and Mrs. Rufa Cherry, both of Spur. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. McDonald Funeral Home, Lubbock was in charge of arrangements with interment in Spur Cemetery.
