Two Killed In Car Wreck

Two Spur men, Curtis Earl Wootan, 21 and Delevan Arlue Stoneman, 22, were killed sometime around midnight Saturday when the car in which they were riding overturned four miles West of Spur on Farm-to-Market road 836.

According to investigatiors, the car rolled four or five times, snapped off a high-line pole and three fence posts. Wooten's body was still in the car, but Stoneman was found 45 feet in front of the car. They were apparently killed instantly.

Wooten had been discharged from the Army about a year. He was employed by a line construction company with headquarters in Stamford. Stoneman was a farm worker and had been employed by a Spur gin during ginning season.

Funeral services for Wootan were held in the First Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Rev. William D. McReynolds officating.

Born in Limestone County, he had been a resident of Dickens County since 1948.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wootan, Spur; three brothers, Edward Roy Wootan, Joe Wayne Wootan and Vernon Lee Wootan, all of Spur.

Pallbearers were Charlie Hobbs, Billy Copeland, Foy Westfall, Don Estep, Charlie Webb, Ted Hindman, Luther Spain and Floyd DeGraffenreid.

Interment was in Spur Cemetery.

Services for Stoneman were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Spur Church of Christ with ministers, C.V. Allen and Vernon Williams officiating.

He was born in Kent County in 1939, but had been a resident of Dicknes County most of his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his father, Rayborn Stoneman, Carrizozo, N.M.; five brothers, Charles Kenneth and Alvis Wendell Stoneman, all of Spur; Aubrey Stoneman, Roswell, N.M. and Lester Wendell Stoneman, Lubbock; grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fuqua, Spur and a grandmother, Mrs. Mollie Stoneman, Ancho, N.M.

Pallbearers were Billy Tom White, Luther Spain, Ed Denson, Eldon Mayo, Charles Hobbs and Max Edwards.

Interment was in Red Mud Cemetery.
