Crosbyton Review, Thursday, April 30, 1964

Funeral services for Mrs. Roxie O. Witt, 66, who passed away in the Nichols General Hospital, Thursday, June 9 at 3:10 p.m. after a short illness, were held Thursday afternoon, June 10 in the First Baptist Church of Spur, with Rev. Wayne Grizzle officiating assisted by Rev. A.P. Stokes.

Mrs. Witt, wife of H.R. Witt. Death came as a great shock to her family and friends. Born on November 6, 1881, in Walker County near Huntsville, TX, she came to McLelland County near Bruceville. There on September 12, 1897, she became the wife of H.R. Witt. In 1907 they settled in Ballinger and later moved to Spur in 1919. Mrs. Witt mothered 16 children, six girls and 10 boys.

The splendid tribute paid Mrs. Witt through the beautiful floral offering was not the only evidence of the high esteem in which she was held. The greatest tribute came from the hearts of those who had known and loved her; from those whose lives had been so deeply affected by her noble existence. In life she brought forth all the fine qualities that make for a better world. In death those qualities are still a living inspiration reflected in the hearts of those who loved her.

Survivors include her husband, H.R. Witt, Spur; five daughters; Mesdames Ruby Love, and Belle Sweeney, Spur; Estelle Maze, LaCrescenta, CA; Norvelle Smith of Burbank, CA and Dortha Opal of Morton, TX. Six sons: C.P. Witt, Kalgary, Lawrence, Vernon, AZ; Elton "Satch", Spur; Lois, Crosbyton; Weldon, Lakeside, AZ; and Dee Oliver, Burbank, CA.

Pallbearers were J.R. Williams, C.B. Maze, Earnest Maze, Merton Fisher, Doyle Hinson, and Bob Bertram.
