Funeral rites were read at the Windham home, 401 W. Hill St., at 4 p.m. Monday, April 8, 1940 for Mrs. Maud Windham, 61, widow of the late Charles G. Windham.

Mrs. Windham succumbed shortly before midnight Friday, April 5 at St. Mary of the Plains Hospital, Lubbock where she had been taken for treatment Friday following a heart attack suffered the preceding day..

The Rev. John C. Ramsay, pastor of the Spur Presbyterian Church officiated, assisted by Rev. R.C. Brown.

Interment was made in Spur Cemetery beside the grave of her husband who preceded her in death October 17, 1932.

Born Maud Chappel Darden, October 6, 1879 at Athens, TX, at the age of 12 years she was united with the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Spur Presbyterian Church at the time of her death.

In 1891 she came with her parents to Kent County settling at old Clipper near the present Co. Seat. October 27, 1897 at the age of 18 she was married to Chas. G. Windham at Clairemont, TX. Three years later in 1900, Mr. Windham purchased ranch land in Croton where he moved his wife and infant daughter, Tallye, to the ranch home where they lived until 1916 when they moved to Spur.

Four years ago Mrs. Windham moved to Lubbock where she and daughter, Jetty, have since resided at 2024 Main.

Surviving are three daughters, Misses Tallye, Spur; Jetty Grace, Lubbock and Mrs. Leo McIntyre, Salt Lake City, Utah.

All of the children were with her in her last illness but only Tallye was at her bedside at the end.

Other survivors are three brothers: W.S., T.S., and A.F., Darden, one sister, Mrs. Frank Traywick; seven nieces and one nephew. All were present for the funeral except two nieces, Mrs. Raymond Eaves of Lovington, NM and Miss Voncille Traywick of Cleveland, who were unable to attend.

Those present were: three brothers, W.S. Darden and wife and daughter, Joyce, Lovington, NM; A.F. Darden, Dumont; T.S. Darden and wife, Lubbock; her only sister Mrs. Frank Traywick, Cleveland, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Painter, Lubbock; Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Merrill, Dumont; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wise, Quitaque; Mrs. Loyd Pennington, Houston; and Frank Darden, Dumont and a number of out of town friends. Campbells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
